  1. Any other user is trying to access the same company file from a different computer. QuickBooks on that computer might be running in Single-user mode, making it difficult for your computer to access the file.
  2. The transaction file(.TLG) and company file(.QBW) are not similar. This variation can be because the transactional log is not updated in your QuickBooks on this computer.
  3. Your company File may be corrupted, and your QuickBooks cannot read it.

Solution 1- Let’s try renaming some QuickBooks files

You’ll have to rename some Transactional log files and company files. They have the same name, but the extensions are different-

  1. Open the folder that has your company file.
  2. Look for files with the same name as your company file but extensions .ND & .TLG.
    (Example- Companyfilename.QBW.ND or Companyfilename.TLG)
  3. Rename the files by right-clicking on them and then selecting Rename.
  4. Add .OLD at the last of the company file name.

SOLUTION 2-Reopening your company file from a different location

  1. Copy the company file and paste it into a new location.
  2. Open QuickBooks & click on File on the top left. Further, tap on open or restore company.
  3. Now, click on the open or restore existing company option and select the company file from the new location.
  4. Remember to open the file in multi-user mode.

Solution 3- Turning on Multi-User access

Error 6190 can be mainly caused due to multiple users trying to access the same company file. Refer to the steps-

If the company file is opened in-

  • In server computer (Host)
    1. Start QuickBooks & click on File. Then, click Close company on the menu.
    2. Click on File again & then on open or restore company.
    3. Now, click on the open or restore existing company option and select the company file you want to open.
    4. Don’t forget to open the file in multi-user mode.
  • In another computer (workstations connected to host)
    1. Start by closing QuickBooks on all computers connected to the host (Click on Quit QuickBooks)
    2. Open your company file on the host computer.
    3. Now, run the file in multi-user mode by clicking on the file and then switch to multi-user mode.
